Iberia upgrades their on board experience

26 June 2023

We have redesigned the meals on offer in all our cabins, improving their quality and maintaining the essence of Spanish cuisine.

New snack services are offered on long-haul flights, with fruit baskets and hot sandwiches in the Business cabin, and ice cream, cookies and tapas in the Premium Economy and Economy cabins.

Customers can now use a new digital tool to find out about in-flight meals, the contents of the entertainment service, last-minute information on other flights, and to manage their reservations, among other features.

The new meals will be on offer from 15 June, on long-haul flights, and from tomorrow on short- and medium-haul flights. These improvements, which are implemented in all cabins - Business, Premium Economy and Economy - include the redesign of the menus, improved services on long-haul flights, and a new personalised digital experience.

New Gastronomic Experience

We redesigned our in-flight meals globally with the help of our catering provider. DO & CO worked to improve the quality of the menu designs in all cabins and flights, maintaining the essence of Spanish cuisine and products. The new meals will be on offer from today, 15 June, on long-haul flights, and from tomorrow on short- and medium-haul flights.

We renewed our proposal for Economy and Premium Economy class on long-haul flights, improving current services and adding new ones, such as a ”movie snack”. On flights less than 10.5 hours from Madrid, a Magnum Choc Ice is offered, while a delicious cookie will be provided during flights to Madrid, so that customers can enjoy them while watching a movie.

On longer flights originating from Madrid, a tapas bag service is offered, which includes a selection of cold cuts, bread sticks and olives (a vegetarian version is also available). On return flights, customers will be served sandwiches and, on night flights, crackers and cookies.

Improvements, which began last year, continue in Business class. The snack service is updated with new healthy products, such as fruit baskets, and hot and cold sandwiches.

The service before landing has been improved, with additional products, depending on the arrival time of the flight, such as hot and cold sweet and savoury dishes, in addition to the Iberia signature omelette for breakfast.

More Sustainable Travel

By 2023, we will reduce 200 tons of plastics on board, thanks to various initiatives that have already been implemented, mainly related to the replacement of in-flight catering elements with others made of more environmentally friendly materials such as bamboo or paper.

Reducing single-use plastics during flights is also a priority. For this reason, customers who bring their own cup will benefit from a discount on their coffee or tea orders from the Gastrobar service.

New Range of Gastrobar Products

There is also a new Gastrobar range, with a new selection of drinks, sweet and savoury snacks. Some of the new products this season are snack boxes, Starbucks coffee, new Tetera Azul teas and amenity kits.

To make it easier for customers to select their drinks, later in the summer, we will launch the new service Gastrobar@seat  so they can make their selection directly from their phones via shop.iberia.com.

Personalised Digital Experience

So that trips are easier, more accessible and personalised, we designed a digital tool with direct access to certain functionalities from which customers can manage their experience from a single link.

Through this platform, customers can find out about the in-flight meals, the Gastrobar service range, the entertainment system, and download the digital press and purchase Wi-Fi packages to surf the Internet during their flight. They can also check the last-minute information on other flights, check the boarding gate assigned to their connecting flight and manage their reservations.

In the coming months, our customers will also be able to track their luggage in real time and make a pre-selection of their Business class meal.

Sonora in the Entertainment on Board

The entertainment system for long-haul flights includes over 250 Hollywood, Spanish, European and international films; more than 1000 series, television programme and documentaries, and more than 200 audio titles, including music, podcasts and audiobooks, which are updated every month.

In addition, starting this June, a space dedicated to podcasts has been added by Sonora, the leading Spanish-language audio entertainment platform, which stands out for its original productions and for having premiered the most podcasts in 2022.
